Al Merkel should resign from office. Spokane Valley City Councilmemember Al Merkel has been an embarrassment to the institution and to the people of Spokane Valley.

According to the Spokesman-Review:
"He’s often been the center of testy arguments with fellow council members during public meetings. His social media activity, primarily on Nextdoor, has been called into question and was found in violation of city policy." And in addition to harassing City employees and attacking citizens, "Merkel is currently being sued in Spokane County Superior Court for allegedly harassing, fostering a hostile work environment and discriminating against a female employee during his time [at] Valley’s Sequoia Detox Centers in 2020."

As a result of Merkel's unprofessional actions in public and online, taxpayer dollars and staff time has been wasted. Reports say over $150,000 in legal expenses have gone towards this – dollars that could go towards hiring additional police officers to keep us safe.
